With the QCA7520 QUALCOMM extends their portfolio of IEEE 1901 and HomePlug AV2 (HPAV2) MAC/PHY Transceivers. The target of development of this new PLC Chip was to simplify the system design. In order to achieve this target, 16 MB of RAM as well as two Analog Front End / Line Drivers which allow coupling the PLC signal onto 3 wires have been integrated into the QCA7520. The chip operates in the well-known Powerline Frequency bands 30 MHz and 67,5 MHz and is provided with an MII Interface allowing data rates up to 95 Mbit/s over the Ethernet interface.
The new chip can be seen as to be the successor of the AR7420/AR1540 Chipset in which the Analog Front End Performance has been increased by some Decibel compared with the predecessor. The QCA7520 is housed in an 12x12mm DRQFN package and pin-to-pin compatible with the QCA7500 and QCA7550. Due to the fact that PLC designs are very complex and support intensive, new embedded chip designs are supported only in case of large project volumes exceeding 50000 pcs per annum.
