DC/DC-Converter

Galvanically isolated DC/DC-Converter
Converter modules are used in a wide variety of industrial (IEC/EN-UL-CSA60950- 1) and medical applications (IEC/EN-UL-CSA60601-1 3rd Edition). In addition to these two main groups, special certifications must be covered, such as, for instance IEC/EN50155 (EN50121-32, EN61373) for railway technology, which comprises EMC (EMI), ESD, surge, transient events, and vibration and shock resistance, or also the household appliance standard IEC/EN-UL-CSA60335-1.
Apart from the more traditional interface modules with purely functional or basic isolation, a galvanically isolated converter is a constituent part of the safety chain. Thereby, with medical applications the creepage and clearance required for the different overvoltage categories are only partially reached by the power unit.
The type of isolation – doubled, reinforced – also plays a part in this, in particular with medical applications (MOOP – Means of Operator Protection, MOPP – Means of Patient Protection), in particular with classifications in accordance with NC(B), BF – body floating, CF – cardiac floating, with which the patient leakage separates the wheat from the chaff.
