Resistive Touch Panels
Resistive touch panels react to pressure. Pressing the surface of the panel causes two electrically conductive layers to come into contact, resulting in the flow of electrical current, and the point of pressure is identified by detecting this change in voltage. This is the reason why the design does not allow for the use of front or protective glass, since this would render the resistive touch panels inoperable.
A few additional designs exist within the family of resistive touch panels. These include, for instance, "four-wire" resistive panels, which is the standard type, the "five-wire" type that improves the gradual loss of precision, and the "six-", "seven-", or "eight-wire" types which are used depending on the intended application.
